As IT Companies Got Bigger, Small Businesses Got Ignored. We Started Soda City Systems to Fix That.
Soda City Systems was founded by Geoffrey Giles, a former Virtual CIO who spent years managing enterprise IT across South Carolina and watching the businesses that needed help most get left behind.
The problem
The Problem We Kept Seeing
Geoffrey Giles spent years as a Virtual CIO at a national managed IT provider, managing $24 million in annual IT spend across South Carolina. The role covered businesses of every size — medical practices, insurance agencies, law firms, accounting firms, construction companies. The work itself was good. The pattern underneath it wasn’t.
As IT companies in this market grew, through acquisitions and private equity investment, the businesses with 10 to 50 employees gradually stopped getting the attention they were paying for. They got pushed into service plans designed for organizations ten times their size. They got assigned to technicians who had never seen their setup. They got invoices full of tools they couldn’t evaluate — SIEM platforms, 24/7 monitoring, annual penetration testing — sold as necessities when the business hadn’t even turned on multi-factor authentication yet.
The small businesses that had never had IT support fared worse. They weren’t being neglected, they were being ignored entirely. A 10-person dental office, a 7-person insurance agency, a 15-person law firm — too small for the firms that kept getting bigger, too complex for the sole practitioners who fixed computers on the side.
That gap is why Soda City Systems exists.

Why us
Founder-Operated, and Staying That Way
Soda City Systems is not backed by private equity. It has not been acquired. It is not a franchise, a satellite office, or a regional expansion of a company headquartered somewhere else. It is a locally owned, founder-operated IT company in Columbia, South Carolina — built by someone who lives in this market and has a direct stake in every client relationship lasting.
We don’t sell tools our clients don’t need.
If the six controls aren’t in place, a penetration test just tells you what you already know — that the basics aren’t handled. If your industry or a contract requires something beyond the six, we build it. Otherwise we don’t pad an invoice.
We train staff like adults, not test subjects.
We don’t send fake phishing emails to catch employees failing. We train people to recognize real threats and we recognize the ones who report them. Positive reinforcement builds a security-aware team. Fear doesn’t.
We explain everything in plain English.
If the client doesn’t understand what happened and what we did, we haven’t done our job. Communication the client can’t follow isn’t communication — it’s noise.
We answer the phone.
No ticket queues. No phone trees. No re-explaining your environment to a Level 1 technician reading from a script.
Industry knowledge
Industry Knowledge That Starts on Day One
Most IT companies walk into a new client’s office and spend the first few months learning the industry — the compliance requirements, the software stack, the daily workflows. That learning curve gets billed to the client.
Soda City Systems was built with specific expertise in the industries where small businesses in the Columbia market face the most pressure. For each vertical we build and maintain the specific compliance documentation and technical controls the regulatory framework requires — not generic security checklists, but the actual deliverables an auditor, a carrier, or a regulator expects to see.
Soda City Systems also shares ownership with Cut Throat Marketing, a digital marketing agency that works exclusively with home services businesses across the Columbia area. That shared ownership means the people running your IT company have spent years inside the home services industry, working with the dispatching software, field service platforms, and mobile-dependent workflows these businesses run on every day.

Find Out What Your Business Needs
The right IT plan for a 12-person insurance agency looks nothing like the right plan for a 30-person dental practice. We’ll come to your office, look at your current setup, talk through what’s working and what isn’t, and give you a clear recommendation.
It takes about an hour. No pressure, no contracts, no 47-slide presentation.
